Hi Nick, I have a question, in what way is your music influenced by shamanism?

Nicholas Breeze Wood's avatar

Thanks for asking :)

So, musically, of course not at all, but I am a song writer and the lyrics of my songs often have shamanistic or animistic themes.

For example, on my album 'Horses of Turmoil', there is a song about when I went up a mountain in Mongolia with two Mongolian shamans, in order for me to make offerings to a savdag (earth lord) spirit up there.

There is a song that describes the work of a shaman, and another song about the spirits that manipulate people in order to create 'food energy' from people's distress.

Not all my songs are themed in that way, but shamanistic, animistic and Tengeristic/Buddhist/medicine way (Native American) concepts are a regular feature, and as such perspectives influence my outlook on life, and the world in general, connections and influence occur very often.

Ok, thanks for the answer. Your music really sounds great. The mixes are really in balance and the female vocals I heard are sounding so nice on your last album.

Ah, that's 'The Band of Ghosts' a new project where I have been working with a band to re record some of the songs I've written over the last 40 years. And with a new singer, Alice D.

Glad you like it :)

My old stuff - all my old recordings - is just me, and I play everything and sing.

I'm enjoying working with the Band of Ghosts, and am planning a few more albums with them, but Im not sure if they will ever release new material.

The Band of Ghosts has a new single coming out in a few days time - Friday this week I think - called 'Hexagram of Heaven'

All my stuff is on all the streamers, Spotify, Apple, Amazon etc, and also on my Bandcamp too

Ah, I see. Haven’t listened to the old work yet. Will do. Band of ghosts is impressive.

My studio craft has improved over the years - as has my studio :) - so I suggest you start by listening to the albums 'Vessel' [which is more like the sound of Band of Ghosts in some ways] and 'Horses of Turmoil' [which is heavier and darker]

Older stuff was recorded with more primitive equipment and then remixed and remastered to clean it up... sound quality is OK but not as I'd like it (I'm a studio perfectionist, greatly inspired by Steven Wilson, a studio wizard)

[And musically, Horses of Turmoil is inspired by Steven Wilson's music too, he's a musical hero of mine]

I run a small studio here in Holland. All on Cubase. Most of the time working for others, arranging and scoring choir work. Still miss the inspiration to work on my own music. That takes a long time, unfortunately.

Ah, I used to work with Logic on Windows but then it went to Apple and since I am a PC guy, I had to move so I went Steinberg Cubase.

Ah, I've been Apple from day one, well over 30 years now
